Brief description

An intermediate class exploring characterisation, structure and other skills in a variety of literary forms. This course also offers advice and guidance to those working on projects for publication and would suit students who have completed the introductory course.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is aimed specifically at students who have completed the Introduction to Creative Writing course

Course description in brief

A close-knit interactive group-sharing of a variety of techniques/tasks for enhacement of creative writing. This course is aimed at those who are already writing regularly and looks at wasy to move towards longer works/ refining of a writer’s particular ‘voice’

By the end of the course I will have learned:

    How to edit/redraft, how to present longer works for publication, a supple approach to different styles of writing/ how to critique others’ work constructively

This course is predominantly for students who have completed the Introductory course. Other students should seek guidance before enrolling.

There will be a weekly homework task and students are expected to share their work in class, collaborate and critique one another’s work constructively.

Tutor feedback on weekly homework. Assessment of progress through class-based tasks

Course Funding

Swarthmore provides a variety of courses some of which are subsidised by public funding.

Courses with course codes pre-fixed by a letter ‘F’, ‘L’ or ‘N’ are subsidised and have age restrictions.

  • ‘F’: courses are accredited and are funded by the ‘Skills Funding Agency’ for those aged 16 and over.
  • ‘L’ & ‘N’ courses for those aged 19 and over.
  • ‘L’ courses are supported by Leeds City Council for Leeds Metropolitan area residents, priority given to those living in disadvantaged areas, people not in employment and/or in receipt of benefits, those with low skills, no qualifications, disadvantaged groups or individuals with specific needs e.g. lone parents, BAME groups, adults with LDD.
