Aromatherapy and Massage

Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential plant oils to promote health and well-being by supporting the body’s natural ability to balance and heal itself.  It takes a holistic approach, designed to treat the whole person and not just the symptom, and is often effective in treating stress-related problems.

The natural plant oils are applied in various ways:

  • Massage – direct to the skin, usually diluted in a base oil
  • Baths – by adding a few drops to warm water when bathing
  • Inhalation – this is not recommended if you have asthma

You can find a wide range of information about aromatherapy on the Internet.  One place to start might be the Aromatherapy Council.  You could also try the NHS Directory of Complementary & Alternative Practitioners.
