T`ai chi

T’ai chi originated in China as a martial art, but is often practiced in this country today for the purposes of health and well-being.

There are various styles of t’ai chi, but all of them will include a t’ai chi ‘form’, a series of slow, controlled movements linked with breathing, and with the mind focused on each step.

Following the t’ai chi form helps to exercise the body gently, calm the mind and stimulate the internal organs.  It can also help develop coordination and balance, lower high blood pressure, reduce stress and improve posture and concentration.  

T’ai chi practitioners may also teach Chi Kung and Kai Men exercises to increase flow, flexibility, balance and internal harmony.  Practicing t’ai chi regularly helps improve awareness of posture, body alignment and poise.
