Course description in brief
Introduction to basic computer skills and the use of other Technologies. Build your confidence in using a computer, opening programmes. typing text, using images/pictures to create documents and flyers
Suitable for people with learning difficulties/disabilities/support needs
By the end of the course I will have learned:
Be able to turn a computer on/off.
Be able to use a mouse & Keyboards skills
Gain basic knowledge and understanding of MS Word/Internet
Be able use MS Word /Internet to create and save work.
Be able to add pictures and images into documents
Be more confident using a computer

What equipment will I need for the course?
•A file or folder to keep your work in/notepad/pen
What activities will I take part in and how will my course be structured?
You will get support throughout the 10 week course gain confidence with your basic computer skills and literacy skills.
You will learn how to turn the computer on and off.
Learn how to open and close programs
Practice your mouse control
Practice your keyboard skills
Use the computer to practice typing
Learn how to save and print your work.
Use the internet/cameras
You will be able to create letters, documents and flyers.
What will be expected of me in terms of personal or time commitment?
•To attend classes regularly and be on time /Your support worker can come along and support

Regular feedback by your tutor.

Swarthmore provides a variety of courses some of which are subsidised by public funding.
Courses with course codes pre-fixed by a letter ‘F’, ‘L’ or ‘N’ are subsidised and have age restrictions.
- ‘F’: courses are accredited and are funded by the ‘Skills Funding Agency’ for those aged 16 and over.
- ‘L’ & ‘N’ courses for those aged 19 and over.
- ‘L’ courses are supported by Leeds City Council for Leeds Metropolitan area residents, priority given to those living in disadvantaged areas, people not in employment and/or in receipt of benefits, those with low skills, no qualifications, disadvantaged groups or individuals with specific needs e.g. lone parents, BAME groups, adults with LDD.
