Sewing course for families to learn together
Who is the course aimed at?
For adults and children, who want to learn together. Parents or guardians with their school aged children. Adults must be accompanied by up to 2 children.
Course description in brief
A practical and engaging course where families can work together learning new sewing craft skills, whilst making fun and unusual items
By the end of the course I will have learned:
- • To be aware of health and safety issues
• To have an understanding of a range of textile materials and techniques
• To have fun producing hand stitched items
Do I need any skills, experience or qualifications before I join the course?
No previous experience required
What equipment will I need for the course?
The centre will provide all equipment
What materials will I need for the course?
Although all materials are supplied, we welcome donations from learners, especially items to recycle
What activities will I take part in and how will my course be structured?
The tutor will demonstrate all activities. There will be a range of techniques and challenges for all abilities.
What will be expected of me in terms of personal or time commitment?
Students should arrive promptly, attend regularly, and follow the safety rules in the workshop. You may need to share equipment from time to time and help clear up
How will my learning be assessed and reviewed?
The tutor will assess progress and support throughout the various stage
What could I go on to do after I have finished the course?
There are a number of seasonal craft sessions on Saturdays. You tutor will be able to advise you at the end of the course or you can speak to our student advisor
How will I say what I think about the course?
Throughout the course there are set times to evaluate and review your learning and discuss issues that may be of concern to you.
If you have any problems with the course talk to your tutor, or if you feel you cannot, make an appointment with the curriculum manager.
At the end of the course you will be asked to fill in a simple feedback form.

Courses with course codes marked by ‘LCC’ and ‘CityC’ are subsidised and have age restrictions.
- ‘LCC’ and ‘CityC’ courses for those aged 19 and over.
- ‘LCC’ courses are supported by Leeds City Council for Leeds Metropolitan area residents, priority given to those living in disadvantaged areas, people not in employment and/or in receipt of benefits, those with low skills, no qualifications, disadvantaged groups or individuals with specific needs e.g. lone parents, BAME groups, adults with LDD.
